The Government’s recent discussion paper “Job-ready Graduates: Higher Education Reform Package 2020” is threatening the future of social work in Australia. Student contributions for social work degrees will be raised by 113% while Government contributions will be slashed by 91% under the proposal.

At a time when we are emerging from one of the worst bushfires in our history and are in the midst of the worst pandemic the world has seen in 100 years we need more social workers and better recognition of the vital work they do in society.

That’s why we have started the Save Social Work Australia campaign to prevent this damaging proposal coming into effect on 1 January 2021 and give social work the recognition it deserves in Australia. We are calling on you to help by sharing your story so that we can show the Government the important work that social workers do every day in Australia.
